Ibra 99
Exhibition Report by Derek Pocock, Australian Commissioner
Ibra 99 was an exhibition of massive proportions with six large halls housing some 5,000 plus frames at an exhibition complex some six kilometres out of the centre of the city. Overall the show was most impressive to those attending and the crowds were extensive; no true attendance figure can be given as admission was free but estimates were in the region of 125,000.
There was a busy children's corner, a massive Deutches Post hall full of historic and modern equipment, a separate hall for the trade, numerous meetings for societies and plenty of refreshment areas.
The international children's competition (reported elsewhere) was not part of the exhibition proper and was held away from the exhibition site in the YMCA in the castle.
Six Australian exhibitors participated plus one literature entry. Unfortunately the literature entries were displayed behind glass and could not be examined. The exhibition used 12-sheet frames - some exhibitors had submitted more sheets than was required. There was no Palmares dinner, but the Large Gold medals (only) were presented, and just to those in attendance, together with the Grand Prix at an afternoon ceremony held at the hotel.
