Jakarta
2008, the 22nd Asian International Stamp Exhibition, was held
from 23-28 October under the auspices of FIAP. The exhibition
venue was the 8th Floor of JITEC (Jakarta International Exhibition
Centre) Mangga Due Square, in suburban Jakarta. The theme of
the exhibition was "Philately - A Bridge to Friendship among Men".
The Novotel was the official hotel used to accommodate Jurors and Commissioners. It was located in the same complex just 100-200 metres from the exhibition venue. The Palmares Dinner and Hong Kong 2009 Reception Function were also held at the Novotel.
Twenty two FIAP member countries sent Commissioners with exhibits. Four countries - Australia, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia & Thailand had sufficient entries to qualify for an Assistant Commissioner. After Indonesia, the host country, Australia had the next highest number of exhibits (73 plus 1 literature) with necessitated the appointment of Tony Presgrave from South Australia as Assistant Commissioner.
There were 46 individual Booth Holders, the majority being single stands with some doubles or larger booths. Of this number 36 were from Indonesia (including POS Indonesia) with 10 from overseas, five being postal administrations.
