Kiwipex 2006

Exhibition Report from Erica Genge, Australian Commissioner

Kiwipex 2006 was held in Christchurch New Zealand from 2 to 5 November, 2006 at the Christchurch Convention Centre, which is centrally located near the Casino, several Hotels and Town Hall.  The Centre is a large, modern facility, well lit and ideal for a philatelic exhibition.

Australians provided 164 frames of entries with 111 carried by Commissioner Erica Genge and Assistants Lionel Savins and Joan Orr. Break up by classes was: Traditional 62 frames, Postal History 18, KGVI Colonial Postal History Challenge 33, Revenue 18, Open 14, Youth 4, One Frame 2, Aero 8 and Postcards 5.  Australian exhibitors provided 8 of the 11 KGVI Challenge exhibits.

A Judges’ Exhibitors training course was held at the Philatelic Centre rooms in Riccarton, on Monday 30 & Tuesday 31 October, and attended by Erica Genge and Lionel Savins.  Presenters were Steve Schumann (USA), Malcolm Hammersley (HK), Jeff Long, Ross Marshall and Barry Scott (NZ) and Joan Orr (Aust).

Approximately 35 persons attended over the 2 days, ranging from local novice exhibitors to FIP judges who participated in judging the displays provided and later analysing the results.

Jeff Long was Chairman of the Jury with Mark Jurisich Secretary.  There were 20 Judges, including three apprentices, for approximately 560 frames of exhibits.  Australian judges were Joan Orr and Erica Genge.
