Launpex 2000

From Denis Rosenfeld, APF Public Relations Officerpart of the Max Fry Hall, Trevallyn

Launpex 2000, a Tasmanian State Philatelic Exhibition with National One-Frame Class, was held at the Max Fry Hall in Trevallyn, Launceston, from 17 to 19 November, 2000.

Launpex 2000 enjoyed strong participation from all over Australia with a total of 155 frames of exhibits on show; 47 in the National One-Frame Class, 28 entires in the State classes, plus 14 frames of invited exhibits.

Five of the competitive entries were from juniors which was particularly pleasing to see.  They were well rewarded for their efforts with each receiving encouragement awards courtesy of Australia Post and the Tasmania Stamp Council.

Visitors to Launceston could have been forgiven for forgetting they were in Australia’s southern most State as they enjoyed glorious sunshine throughout the three days of the show.

The APF conducted a National Commissioners course during the course of the exhibition, the result of which is eight experienced philatelists have now been added to the list of qualified National Commissioners.  It was also pleasing to note that all the course participants supported the exhibition with a range of entries in both the National One-Frame class and State classes. Most mainlanders opted to stay at the Penny Royal Motel complex where accommodation had been arranged by the Organising Committee, this providing the added benefit of being able to network and enjoy time with fellow philatelists away from the frames.  Many a good idea and debate was had whilst enjoying the local brew and cuisine!

A commemorative cover and three different day cancellations were produced for the exhibition.  The Garden issue miniature sheet was also overprinted in gold for the exhibition.  The miniature sheets are individually numbered.

The presentation dinner was held at the Riverside Golf Club and was very well supported.
