Anne-Marie Nguyen from Australia Post spoke at this function. Saturday night's Palmares Dinner at the German Club was a sell-out with 108 attending. It was a lively and entertaining evening with an enjoyable time had by all in attendance.

Replica Card No. 44:  Centenary of Sturt's Exploration, 1930

Stamp Replica No. 44 featuring the 1930 Centenary of Sturt's Exploration stamp issue was released to commemorate Adelaide Stampex 2006.

In 1829-30, Captain Charles Sturt undertook a journey of exploration by open boat along the Murrumbidgee River - to its junction with the Murray River - and then along the Murray River to its outlet at Lake Alexandrina.  Sturt's exploration proved that the inland river system led to the ocean and not to an inland sea, as had been speculated.  The centenary of Sturt's exploration was marked by 1½d and 3d stamps issued on 2 June 1930.  The Sturt stamps were designed by Ronald Harrison and engrave by Frank Manley, both of the Note Printing Branch, Melbourne.  The number of 1½d stamps printed was 20,366,400 and the number of 3d stamps was 2,052,000.

The Replica Card was designed by Ern-Mei Lee of the Australia Post Design Studio and was produced using the original dies with special permission of Australia Post.   All proceeds from the sale of replica cards aid the promotion of philately in Australia and the work of the Australian Philatelic Federation.
