Starting ShowMan

ShowMan can be operated by three 'users':

  • the APF
  • the Show Secretary
  • the Jury Secretary

They gain access by entering their user name and a complex password.

The basic structure of ShowMan consists of a set of actions needed to plan, organise, run and wind-up a National Stamp Show, arranged as a "timeline" or as a "To Do" list.  The actions are listed in groups and subgroups, and are approximately in the right order to allow the Show Committee to step through each of the actions to ensure that nothing is forgotten.

Many of the actions are things that have to be done by people, without computer assistance.  But those actions that are marked with a green vertical bar can be performed, at least in part, by the computer equipped with ShowMan.  Some of these actions may be repeated during several stages, e.g. keeping the records of people up-to-date.  The program that is invoked by such actions are identical, regardless of from where they are initiated:  the commands that are executed are identical.

ShowMan has a Master Database under the control of the APF.  On request the APF Database Manager can make a copy for a Show Secretary; this copy is specially tailored to be suited to one StampShow.  The data collected during that Stamp Show is returned to the APF on completion.  You cannot use ShowMan for any other Show than the one for which it was issued.
