The Tasmanian Stamp Council was formed in 1976 to foster the hobby of stamp collecting through organised philatelic societies and clubs, and by direct contact with the general public and collectors not directly involved with societies and clubs.

The Tasmanian Stamp Council provides advice and assistance to:

• collectors and others interested in the hobby;

• the formation of clubs and societies;

• the promotion of the hobby amongst all age groups;

• staging and judging of philatelic exhibitions;

• advice and guidance to prospective exhibitors;  and

• training of State judges
