Guidelines for Preparing Articles for The Young Collector

By Barbara Bartsch and Linda Lee

Subject

Usually the article will be on a subject that ties in with the issue's theme. The subject does not have to be on a specific philatelic class.

Style, Length and Format

As the articles will be read by young people, the language should be simple and easy to read with clear pictures to illustrate the story. Articles should be prepared in 12 point 'Word'.

The main article is printed on the two centre pages and should be about 450 to 500 words long.

Philatelic Illustrations

According to the items' sizes, about 12 philatelic illustrations could be included in the main article. These can be stamps, postmarks, Aerogrammes, Maxi Cards or any other items which illustrate the article.

If you live close to the Adelaide printer, the philatelic items can be taken to him and he will scan them and give them straight back.

Otherwise if you don't want to send the actual items, they must be scanned individually at 300dpi in jpg format.

Submitting the Article

Completed articles with illustrations should be sent to Barbara Bartsch. You can send your article and the illustrations by post but email is preferred. They can also be burnt to disc and sent by post.

If you are using email, the text and each scanned illustration should be sent as separate individual files. They can be sent as one email if all files are individual e.g. one text file and say 14 separate jpg files. However, if they are too large then several emails will be needed.

Barbara will answer any questions and ask for any changes that need to be made before the article is ready for printing.
